PrimateCognition -- Computerized Cognition Research

About PrimateCognition
English (USA)

Non-invasive research in primate cognition has made increasing use of computerized technology as a methodological tool. An intriguing application of these technologies places primate subjects in the role of computer-users, using their direct interactions with a computerized interface to address a range of cognitive hypotheses. The growth of this approach has been paralleled by complementary progress in computer- interaction technology, experimental methodology and understanding of primate cognitive sophistication. With the exploration of these research tools has also come challenges, including technical maintenance, interface resilience and other methodological and interpretive considerations.

The PrimateCognition list serve provides a forum for discussion of the issues and insights emerging from the use of computerized approaches in the study of primate cognition, including: practical, theoretical, and analytical challenges; the use of these technologies in applied contexts, including animal care; and innovations in the use of developing technologies. To ensure an engaging and productive dialogue, individuals from diverse backgrounds are invited to contribute, including those broadly interested in cognition and computer-user interactions, along with the investigators, technicians, students and caretakers with particular experiences in the approach. It is the hope of the moderators that this rich network of experiences and perspectives will serve in part to provoke discussion regarding the future directions of this paradigm and its role in resolving cohesive models of primate cognition.
